Brazilian-Canadian vocalist Fernanda Cunha emerged from her lively musical upbringing in Rio De Janeiro in 1997 and has since toured throughout her home country as well as on European and North American Festival circuits. In 2011 she initiated a potent musical partnership with lauded Canadian jazz guitarist Reg Schwager—a native of the Netherlands who has played alongside major artists such as George Shearing, Diana Krall, Peter Appleyard and Rob McConnell.
As Cunha-Schwager, the duo both mines and extends the great bossa nova canon with elegant interpretations of the classics and intimate original compositions. Last year's album Late Night features the latter exclusively and on their hushed duet sound is expanded with Pat Collins on bass, Tom Szczesniak on piano and accordion, Michel Lambert on drums, tenor saxophonist Masahi Usui, and the JUNO Award-winning saxophonist Allison Au.
