Davidson-Fortin Duo
Vibraphonist Michael Davidson and bassist Daniel Fortin are two of Ontario's most vital and intriguing performers in jazz, improvised music, and well beyond. Together they run the adventurous digital imprint Elastic Recordings which in 2019 released the duo's debut album Clock Radio — a witty angular series of compositions by Davidson.
Michael Davidson's unique, colourful agility on his instrument has graced projects fronted by the likes of Nick Fraser, Brodie West, Ryan Driver, Aline Homzy, Rob Clutton, Andrew Downing, Lina Allemano, Felicity Williams, Pete Johnston and many more. He also leads a chamber-jazz septet, 4th Spatula and is one of the leaders of the acclaimed ensemble Hobson's Choice.
After spending many years immersed in the Toronto scene, Daniel Fortin has recently relocated to Hamilton. His evocative bass work can be heard in vast array of settings including the exploratory pop outfit Bernice (Telephone Explosion Records), his own band Brinks, Myriad 3 (which he also co-leads), while supporting the likes of Queer Songbook Orchestra, John Southworth, Serena Ryder, July Talk, Devon Sproule, and David Occhipinti.
