Jodi Gilbert
Amsterdam-based American vocalist, dancer, actor, and pedagogue Jodi Gilbert has enjoyed a fascinating and eclectic career thus far. She has received several grants to study theatrical forms and music (Wayang Kulit and Gender) in Bali and was sent to Mongolia by the Dutch government to work and perform with Mongolian musicians and singers. She continues to teache privately sponsored workshops in voice, dance, theater, improvisation, and Balkan song throughout Europe and the USA.
Having appeared alongside Meredith Monk at Carnegie Hall, she has also joined the likes of Paul Termos 10-tet, Roscoe Mitchell, Available Jelly, as well as the ICP Orchestra for their opera Behang. She also leads her own outfits such as Rasp/Hasp (with Wilbert de Joode, Anne LaBerge, Paul Lovens, Richard Barrett).
Voice Is the Matter alongside Michael Moore, who will be playing at this year's event, a group with a varied and idiosyncratic self-titled release from 1999, showcases an imaginative panorama of jazz-adjacent angularity, folk lyricism, improvisatory abandon, and uncharted territory in between.
