Michael Moore

Eclectic American jazz musician, master reeds player Michael Moore has lived in the Netherlands since 1982 where he has forged a variety of vital creative partnerships.

Moore is one-third of the Clusone Trio with cellist Ernst Reijseger and drummer Han Bennink. Originally meant only to play a single date at a festival in Clusone, Italy, the trio toured irregularly for several years and recorded six albums, including one of freely-interpreted Irving Berlin compositions.

In addition to maintaining memberships in cutting edge ensembles such as ICP Orchestra and Available Jelly, he's worked in groups led by Maarten Altena, Mark Helias, Gerry Hemingway, Sean Bergin, Maurice Horsthuis, Georg Graewe, Klaus Konig, Burton Greene (Klezmokum), Simon Nabatov, Dave Douglas, Myra Melford, Mark Dresser, Ig Henneman and others.

His own projects have variously included noteworthy personnel such as Marilyn Crispell, Cor Fuhler, Achim Kaufmann and Fred Hersch. In September, 2018 he began a collaboration as composer and soloist with the NDR Bigband in Hamburg, Germany. Moore was the1986 winner of the the Dutch jazz award, the Boy Edgar Prijs.

In 1997 Trio Clusone was voted #1 acoustic group (Talent Deserving Wider Recognition) in DownBeat's Critics Poll; in 2000 - 2002 Moore was voted #1 clarinetist in the same poll.

During Something Else! 2022 Moore will be found performing in Dave Douglas' Mountain Passages, with Jodi Gilbert in Voice Is The Matter, in Ted Crosby's Revival Ensemble and featured in special one-off Zula presentations such as Big Bottom and Clarinet Summit
