Ladyfinger
Ladyfinger unites two crucial Toronto talents—Diane Roblin (piano & keyboards) and Kayla Milmine (soprano saxophone), who join forces to offer a mix of rousing improv-laced originals and fresh, expressive takes on tunes from pivotal jazz composers such as McCoy Tyner, Carla Bley, and Wayne Shorter.
Roblin is a veteran artist who has played with everyone from queer legends Rough Trade to noted free player Charles Gayle and everywhere from the Tranzac to the fabled Bimhuis in Amsterdam.
Milmine, is the cofounder of Toronto's spectacular Women From Space Festival and brings her extensive technical knowledge of the saxophone to an array of projects including Overleaf (alongside the electronics of Mira Martin-Gray and Heidi Chan), in trio form with Bill Gilliam (piano) and Ambrose Pottie (drums), with William Parker, and in her own Kayla Milmine Quartet featuring revered soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome and drummers Mark Ferber and Rachel Housle.
