Joshua Zubot
Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1978, Joshua Zubot is a violinist who spent his younger years honing his skills in the Western Canada. During this time, Zubot toured internationally with a violin group called Barrage. Soon after, he delved into the world of improvisation and electronic music playing in numerous projects in Calgary, AB, then deciding to further his studies in electronic music and moved to Montréal where he has finished his BFA in Electroacoustic Studies and since freelances mainly as a violinist, recently having moved to the South Coastal BC.
His main focus in music has been the avant garde and improvisation, but Zubot also plays klezmer, bluegrass, avant rock, jazz, classical and many more styles. Along the way, he has played with numerous groups and individuals. Some collaborations were made with Bernard Falaise, Sam Shalabi, Nicolas Caloia, Rainer Wiens, Gordon Allen, Jesse Zubot, Alexandre St-Onge, Philippe Lauzier, Pierre-Yves Martel, Michael Blake, Isaiah Ceccarelli, Chad VanGaalen, Miles Perkin…
Josh Zubot has played the Montréal, Calgary, Medicine Hat, L’Off Festival de Jazz de Montréal, Jazz festivals, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Something Else! Festival!, Les Francofolie de Montréal, NXNE, Sound Travels (Sound Art Festival in Toronto) as well as numerous festival circuits in Europe.
